The AlUla Al Hajar Collection
The HDD-RUKUN collaborative initiative was set up in 2021 between Harry Dobbs Design and Rukun as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and ideas for creative practice and production within Saudi Arabia. The initiative seeks to re-evaluate the significant gap that exists between the international creative supply chains of large scale transformative development projects, and the work of contemporary Saudi based design practice and making.
The initiative is focused on expanding the opportunities for creative production in this territory, through knowledge share, advocacy and proactive collaborative endeavour, and thereby provide valuable new possibilities for Saudi design and manufacture at this time of radical transformation.
The collection was designed for the 2021 AlUla Design Award (ADA) set up by the Royal Commission for AlUla . It is made up of two sets, the Water Set (a carafe and two cups) and a Fire Set an incense burner and two candle holders. The pieces are inspired and designed to be made from crushed stone aggregate taken from the AlUla region and 3D printed into shape.
This collection was shortlisted from out of 400 design applications and became one of the winning designs!
